This is an impressionistic composition, written with a great sense of sound and of the possibilities of the flute. The Polish composer Krystof Zgraja wrote numerous pieces for flute, including ‘3 virtuoso Flamenco-Studien’ for solo flute (ED 8425).
Composer-Krysztof Zgraja
Krzysztof Zgraja (1950-) is a Polish flautist, composer, and arranger and is among the foremost European jazz flautists. He has composed symphonic works, a flute concerto, jazz pieces, and instrumental music inspired by Polish, Afro-Cuban folklore, and flamenco.
He studied violin at Music School in Gliwice and graduated from the State Higher School of Music in Katowice with a focus on flute, composition and theory.
Krzysztof made his debut in the jazz-rock band Alter Ego and performed as a duo with Czesław Gładkowski (double bass) from 1971 to 1978. They appeared at various festivals and recorded sessions for Polish Radio. Later, he formed a duo with double bassist Jacek Bednarek and explored various musical styles and improvisations.
Krzysztof released a solo album titled “Laokoon” in 1981 and played with the band Amalgamat. He has also been involved in interdisciplinary artistic projects using electronic instruments. Since 1986, he performs solo and collaborates with musicians and orchestras from different countries.
