About
This is a quick waltz aimed at intermediate to advanced performers.
“Pleasure Train” was a polka specifically for the Association of Industrial Societies’ Ball, an event held on January 19, 1864, at the Redoutensaal in Vienna. The composition was inspired by the inauguration of the Austrian Southern Railway, known as the Südbahn, which introduced “pleasure trains” offering delightful trips from Vienna to the countryside. This lively polka captures the joyful spirit of these train excursions, and with its energetic melodies and rhythmic flair, it became a popular addition to Strauss’s repertoire.
Johann Strauss II
Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) was an Austrian composer known as the “Waltz King” for his iconic contributions to the genre of Viennese waltzes. Building on the musical legacy of his father, Johann Strauss I, he became one of the most renowned composers of his time with his captivating melodies, rhythmic charm, and energetic compositions. Popular works include, “The Blue Danube”, “Tales from the Vienna Woods,” and operettas like “Die Fledermaus” and “The Gypsy Baron.”
