Alexis Fernand Félix Jean Rivier (1896-1987) was a French composer known for his classical music in the neoclassical style. He served as a Professor of Composition at the Paris Conservatory from 1948 until his retirement in 1966, sharing the position with the renowned composer Darius Milhaud during 1948–1962.
He was a founding member of the “Triton” group, succeeding the famous “Group des six,” and gained recognition for his Romantic trend in musical expression.
Rivier was particularly celebrated for his flute compositions. Additionally, he composed an extensive repertoire of over two hundred works, spanning symphonies, chamber music, concertos, choral pieces, piano works, and accompanied songs.
