Music and Dyslexia-A Positive Approach Book
Music and Dyslexia-A Positive Approach Book offers practical techniques and strategies, for teachers and parents to aid work with young dyslexics and dyslexic musicians. Research suggests that music education can benefit young dyslexics. It helps focus on auditory and motor timing skills, and highlights the rhythms of language. Secondly, more advanced dyslexic musicians face particular challenges such as sight–reading, written music examinations and performance nerves. The knowledge of dyslexia has improved greatly, particularly in the area of neuro-psychology. Therefore this book focuses on these research advances and draws out the beneficial aspects of early music education . The editors also discuss the problems that dyslexic musicians face.  Several chapters focus on sight–reading and methods that dyslexics can use to help them sight–read. Dyslexia is a learning disability that occurs when the brain is unable to process written words.  This can effect the learning of scales and sight reading.  There are now exams which give the option of avoiding these elements of music, but deprives learners of essential musical skills.  With the correct approach, attention to detail and patience, any student dyslexic or not can sight read and play scales with ease.
