About
Ibert’s flute concerto was composed in 1932, consisting of three distinct movements: Allegro, Andante, and Allegro Scherzando. The concerto had its premiere in 1934 at the renowned Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in Paris.
Dedicated to the esteemed flautist Marcel Moyse, this concerto showcases Ibert’s masterful understanding of the flute’s expressive capabilities, technical demands, and tonal palette.
Jacques Ibert
Ibert (1890-1962) was a renowned French composer and conductor who made significant contributions to 20th-century classical music. Born in Paris, Ibert displayed remarkable musical talent from a young age, studying at the Paris Conservatoire under illustrious composers such as Paul Vidal and André Gedalge.
Ibert’s compositions encompass a wide range of genres, including orchestral works, chamber music, operas, and film scores. Known for his vibrant and evocative style, his music is characterised by its rhythmic vitality, colourful orchestrations, and lyrical melodies.
Ibert wrote composed numerous works for flute including, Flute Concerto, Jeux, Piece, Trois pièces brèves, Paraboles, Histoires and Aria.
