Erik Satie
Erik Satie (1866-1925) was a renowned French composer and pianist whose unconventional and often witty style had a profound influence on 20th-century music, especially in France. Despite not earning a diploma, his time at the Paris Conservatoire laid the foundation for his remarkable career.
In the vibrant atmosphere of Montmartre’s café-cabarets during the 1880s, Satie honed his skills as a pianist while beginning to compose works, most notably his enchanting Gymnopédies and evocative Gnossiennes, which would later captivate audiences worldwide.
