About
This sonatina consists of three captivating movements. The first movement exudes a sense of tension, gradually building up from the depths of the piano. The middle movement evokes emotions through the delicate utilization of slow glissandi in the flute’s lower octave, while the final movement dazzles with its spirited and vibrant bi-tonal rondo.
Expertly typeset and reprinted in 2010 to commemorate the composer’s 50th birthday, this Sonatina showcases the masterful artistry of Mark Goddard.
Composer-Mark Goddard
Mark Goddard, born in 1960 and educated in Oxford, embarked on his musical journey at the renowned Royal Academy of Music (RAM). At RAM, he received numerous accolades for his compositional prowess, including the prestigious “Eric Coates Prize,” the esteemed “Leverhulme Scholarship for Composers,” and a grant from the “Countess of Munster Musical Trust” to support his travels abroad. Mark also earned the GRSM (Hons) music degree and the LRAM piano diploma during his tenure at RAM.
Following his time at the academy, Mark married fellow RAM student, bassoonist Pat Goddard, and dedicated the next decade to composing, arranging, and conducting orchestras and choirs in Oxford. His compositions gained widespread recognition, being performed, recorded, published, and broadcasted both domestically and internationally.
In 1989, Mark and Pat established Spartan Press, a publishing venture that blossomed into a limited company in 1990. Eventually, the business relocated to the picturesque Scottish Highlands, along with their growing family and their beloved giant dogs.
Recognizing Mark’s significant contributions to the music profession, he was bestowed the esteemed title of “Associate of the Royal Academy of Music” (ARAM) in 2015, honouring his outstanding service to the field of music. https://markgoddard.online/biography/
