Flute Lab Vertical Silver Pre-Owned Head Joint-c8577

Condition – Excellent Condition / New Head Cork

About

The vertical flute headjoint allows you to play your flute vertically as if it were a clarinet or recorder. This design allows flute players with severe physical problems to still play the flute.

Simply put the vertical head on your own flute and you have a vertical flute.

The flute is supported by the right thumb, using a large thumb rest, and the left hand, using left-hand support. Both were specially designed for this purpose. The flute is not held at exactly 90 degrees, but slightly to the right of the player. This is necessary to reduce pronation of the right wrist.

The Vertical flute headjoint is handmade in 925/000 silver. The crown has a stunning malachite stone inlaid. The bore taper is unique for this type of headjoint and deals with the acoustical compensation for the curvature effects.

Flute Lab Info

Maarten Visser (Amsterdam, 1959) graduated in 1983 from Newark Technical College in Woodwind making and repairing. Since 1984, he pioneered in making adaptive wind instruments for physically challenged musicians. From there on he expanded his activities in research into improving the ergonomy of the Boehm flute. This led to the development of the swan-neck headjoint and the vertical flute. In 2014 he won the OHMI award for the Onehand flute.

Head Joint Testing

Head joints can radically enhance the sound of most flutes. With a vast array of headpieces made by several respected flute makers worldwide, each one differs by its embouchure cut, lip plate and material. Each headjoint offers different qualities including wide-ranging tonal colours, projection, more/less resistance and ease of articulation. Headjoint choices are entirely subjective!

Please note that whilst these head joints are for sale, we advise you to try them before you buy! Head joints come in lots of shapes and sizes. It is therefore recommended that you try the headjoint either in our testing room at All Flutes Plus or by pre-arranged trial within the comfort of your own home.
