About

“Après un rêve” (Op. 7, No. 1) forms parts of a set of three melodies (Trois mélodies) by Gabriel Fauré, originally written for solo voice and piano. “Après un rêve” (Op. 7, No. 1), remains one of Faure’s most beloved vocal compositions. These songs were composed between 1870 and 1877 and later published as a set in 1878.

Gabriel Fauré

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), a prolific French composer, organist, pianist, and teacher, left an indelible mark on the Romantic era. Renowned as one of the leading figures among French composers of his time, his musical legacy continues to inspire countless composers of the 20th century. Faure studied piano with Camille Saint-Saëns. In 1896, he was appointed organist at the church of La Madeleine in Paris and became a Professor of Composition at the Paris Conservatoire. Among his students were Maurice Ravel, Georges Enesco, and Nadia Boulanger.  He wrote a vast number of pieces for orchestra, chamber, vocal and church music.
