Jean-Michel Damase
French composer, Damase (1928-2013) was a pianist, conductor and composer. He studied piano with Alfred Cortot at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1940. Damase later studied with Henri Büsser, Marcel Dupré and composition with Claude Delvincourt for composition. He was also an accomplished pianist touring internationally as a soloist with, Concerts Colonne, the Conservatory Concert Society and the Radio Symphony Orchestra. After receiving the “Grand Prix du Disque” for the first complete recording of Fauré’s Nocturnes and Barcaroles, Damase gradually made the decision to devote himself entirely to composition.
