Jacques Castérède
Jacques Castérède (1926-2014), a renowned French composer, was admitted to study piano, composition, and analysis at the Paris Conservatoire in 1944. During his studies, he excelled and was awarded several prizes and in 1953, he won the prestigious Grand Prix de Rome.
Castérède went on to become a professor of solfège at the Paris Conservatory in 1960, later becoming a counsellor of piano studies in 1966 and analysis in 1971. He also taught composition at the École Normale from 1983 to 1988, and analysis from 1988 to 1998. Additionally, he accepted an invitation from the Chinese government to teach composition at the Central Academy in Beijing.
As a composer, Castérède received numerous awards throughout his career. Notably, he received the Paris Civil Award in 1991, the Charles Cros Award, and the Record Academy Award in 1995. His extensive body of work includes symphonies, concertos, ballets, and chamber music, which have been performed throughout France, Germany, Italy, the United States, and Canada.
