Richard Rodney Bennett
Sir Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012) was a prolific and versatile British composer and pianist renowned for his innovative approach to 12-tone and serial composition, particularly in his concert works. He achieved acclaim for his film scores and was widely recognised for his solo and collaborative work as a jazz musician.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and with renowned composer Pierre Boulez in Paris. Returning to England, Bennett emerged as a versatile avant-garde composer, producing a diverse range of compositions, including chamber, vocal, choral, orchestral, and film music. He later moved to New York City, continuing his musical exploration.
British composer, R. R. Bennett (1936-2012) wrote over two hundred works for the concert hall, an abundance of jazz songs and fifty scores for film and television amongst others. Bennett gained widespread recognition for his film scores, including Murder on the Orient Express and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
He has written numerous works for flute including, Sonatina, Memento, Summer Music, Conversations for Two Flutes and Six Tunes for the Instruction of Singing-birds for Solo Flute
