Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni
Albinoni (1671-1751) was an Italian composer renowned for his instrumental music. Despite his comprehensive musical training, Albinoni considered himself an amateur. While little is known about his personal life, he notably produced at least 48 operas primarily in Venice between 1694 and 1741, along with numerous solo cantatas. His legacy encompasses the publication of 10 sets of instrumental works that garnered widespread popularity during his time and continue to be cherished today.
Johann Sebastian Bach drew inspiration from Albinoni’s compositions, using his themes in four of his own keyboard fugues.
Albinoni’s instrumental repertoire mainly comprises sonatas, concertos, and sinfonias for various instruments. Noteworthy among his creations are the Sinfonie e Concerti a 5 (Opus 2, 1700), the concerti for strings (Opus 5, 1707), and the concerti for one and two oboes in Opus 7 and Opus 9.
