Carl Friedrich Abel
Abel (1723-1787) was a German classical composer and a renowned viola da gamba player. He was highly regarded for his contributions to instrumental music, particularly in the field of chamber music.
As well as composing many important works for the viola da gamba, he also wrote an array of works including symphonies, overtures, sonatas and chamber music. Abel also wrote numerous quartets, sonatas and concertos for the flute.
As a performer, he collaborated with renowned musicians of his time, including Johann Christian Bach. Abel’s influence extended beyond his compositions, as he played a significant role in the development of the classical symphony.
