Please note that whilst these pre-owned head joints are for sale, we advise you to try them before you buy! Head joints come in lots of shapes and sizes. It is therefore recommended that you try the headjoint either in our testing room at All Flutes Plus or by pre-arranged trial within the comfort of your own home.
Lafin
J.R. Lafin, born in 1940, began his career as a Principal Flautist after studying under Dr. Demmler and Aurèle Nicolet. His final playing position was as 1st Piccolo in the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. During his time in Berlin, he frequently had the privilege of performing as a guest with the Berlin Philharmonic in both concerts and recordings, under H. v. Karajan and other renowned conductors. Mr. Lafin has always been profoundly inspired by the exceptional quality of this orchestra, which has significantly shaped his sensitivity to sound.
In 1979, he decided to learn flute repair, as there was no one in Berlin specialising in this field. This eventually led him to Japan, where he underwent extensive training at the Muramatsu factory. Through his interactions with numerous flautists, he frequently heard criticism about head joints—except when the player owned one made by Albert Cooper. This inspired him to create head joints himself, beginning by designing his own tools.
