Brian Ferneyhough, a composer from Coventry, is a key figure in the New Complexity movement. Since 1987, he has lived in California. He studied at the Birmingham School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music with Sir Lennox Berkeley. He holds honorary degrees from Goldsmiths University of London (2012) and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2018) for his contributions to contemporary classical music.

He gained international recognition in the 1970s and is now considered one of the leading living composers and an influential thinker in contemporary music. Brian has also written articles on contemporary music and served on the editorial board of the journal Perspectives of New Music.
