The compositions are Celtic-style tunes as is Philippe’s speciality, but written as a full classical score so are ideally suited for anyone to give them a go, even if you’ve never played Irish music before.
Philippe Barnes
Philippe is a leading exponent of traditional music, mastering the Boehm system flute. He excels in Irish & Celtic music, starring in the award-winning show ‘Come From Away’ in the West End. Philippe is an Altus Flutes and TJ Low Flutes artist, with a first-class honours MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance from Limerick University, and accomplished classical performances.
He recently performed with the London Contemporary Orchestra for ‘Philip Glass Bowie Symphonies’ and ‘Prince: A Symphonic Tribute’ at the Royal Albert Hall. Philippe featured in the film ‘Emma’ and ITV’s ‘Sanditon,’ playing flute, whistles, and uilleann pipes. Notably, he played in ‘The Pirate Queen’ at the London Coliseum.
Philippe contributed to Amy Dickson’s album ‘Dusk & Dawn’ and performed with the London Chamber Orchestra at the Classic Brit Awards. He toured extensively across Europe and America with the David Munnelly Band, Crossharbour, All Jigged Out, and Calum Stewart. Currently, he’s part of the Anglo-Irish folk trio, The Wilderness Yet.
An acclaimed author, his book ‘Irish Music on the Silver Flute’ gained global recognition. Philippe presented at NFA, British Flute Society Convention, and held workshops worldwide.
Beyond traditional music, Philippe loves flamenco and jazz. He performed at the London Jazz Festival with Attab Haddad’s band and participated in world music projects, captivating audiences internationally.
