Caspar Johann Kummer
Kaspar Johann Kummer (1795–1870) was a German flautist, professor, and composer. Kummer taught himself the flute as well as an array of other instruments such as the violin, horn, trumpet, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, cello, and double bassoon.
He received a year of instruction from Neumeister and further training in music theory from the Cantor of Schleusingen, Gottlob Abraham Stäps. In 1835, he began working as a flautist at the chapel of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, eventually becoming the Orchestra Director in 1854.
Kummer’s published compositions, exceeding 150 opus numbers, primarily featured the flute but also included lieder and more.
