About
An album of 24 jazz etudes, one in each key, written in a variety of jazz styles: swing, Latin, ballad and rock. These studies can be played unaccompanied or with a piano and rhythm section (chord symbols included). This is truly an essential guide for jazz and modern rhythmic patterns.
Bill Holcombe (1924-2010)
Bill Holcombe was a renowned flautist, composer, and arranger. He pursued flute studies at the Juilliard School in New York and obtained a degree in musicology from the University of Pennsylvania.
As a composer and arranger, Bill collaborated with esteemed musicians and groups, such as Tommy Dorsey, 101 Strings, Peter Nero, and over 100 symphony orchestras internationally. He also composed music for more than 15 film scores.
In 1975, he founded his own company, Bill Holcombe’s Musicians Publications. Bill wrote and edited several hundred pieces for chamber ensembles, developed a highly regarded series of jazz etude books, and guided his company to become a prominent small American music publisher.
During the early stages of his career, Bill demonstrated his talent as a versatile woodwind player. He performed with Tommy Dorsey, Tex Beneke, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, and the New York radio station WMGM “Theatre of the Air.” He also served as a member of the Decca Records staff.
