The inspiration behind Scatadoodledoo came when Alicia Hart, a Jazz singer and flautist, faced a challenging jazz chart during practice. Feeling trapped in logical thinking and chord symbols, she decided to scat sing through the chart instead. The freedom and flow she experienced while scatting gave birth to a brilliant idea – to sing and play the flute simultaneously.

Through dedicated practice, she discovered a unique way to synchronise her voice and fingers, creating a harmonious blend between singing and playing. This newfound connection transformed her flute improvisation, leading to the birth of ‘Scatadoodledoo’.

Each piece in this collection encourages flautists to think of their flute as the voice they are scat singing with. From grade one to grade eight, the repertoire includes beginner-friendly pieces like “Scat Walker” to more advanced works like “Scatastrophy” and “Scatterbrain” that allow you to play and sing simultaneously.

Alicia Hart is a versatile Singer/Songwriter/Composer and musician, from England, known for her expertise in various genres and styles.

Having graduated from the Trinity College of Music, London, Alicia has cultivated a diverse career, showcasing her talents as a singer, pianist, flautist, and session musician. She has also been involved in composing and arranging for numerous projects.

Alicia’s deep passion for music from different cultures, particularly Latin and African music, led her to live in Cuba in 2007. There, she learned from esteemed musicians like Javier Zalba and Omar Gonzalez. Cuba has become her “second home at heart,” and its influence can be heard in her work, such as her featured flautist performances on tracks like Shaun Escoffery’s ‘So Sweetly’ and ‘Cubana’ from the album ‘Cuba Libre.’

In addition to her songwriting, Alicia stays connected to her classical roots, actively composing and arranging in the classical arena. She received a commission to arrange Phil Coulter’s ‘Home Away from Home’ for the BBC Last Night of the Proms in 2012.
